International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims

The International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT) is a health-based umbrella organisation that supports the prevention of torture and the rehabilitation of torture victims worldwide.

Our members comprise more than 140 independent organisations in over 70 countries. Our work is governed by these member organisations. In this sense we also represent the voice of all the 140 centres working around the world. Today, we are the largest membership-based civil society organisation to work in the field of torture prevention and rehabilitation.

Today there is a growing sector of health and legal professionals, who are capable of delivering rehabilitation services.

The IRCT works with a large number of such professionals. IRCY provides also trainings and capacity building on Medical Legal reporting as we see it as a strong weapon for the fight against torture.

The IRCT has a pool of world class experts providing support not only in terms of rehabilitation, but also for forensic evidence gathering and trainings through the UN Istanbul Protocol as a cornerstone document for gathering torture evidence, documenting and presenting them to the courts and also using for advocacy purposes.
