Czech Helsinki Committee

Czech Republic

Permanent member

The Czech Helsinki Committee is an independent NGO.

It was founded in 1988 on the tradition of respect for and observance of human rights. Like Charta 77 and VONS, from its inception the Czech Helsinki Committee has drawn attention to human rights violations in the former Czechoslovakia and to the non-observance of international conventions and standards. It also stood on the side of individuals whose rights were violated by the state and the authorities.

The Czech Helsinki Committee stands on the same foundations today. We monitor, describe and draw attention to human rights violations in the Czech Republic and abroad – we are a watchdog organisation.
