Civic Space in Georgia “Alarming,” OSCE Special Representative Says

CSP welcomes findings made by OSCE Chairperson-in-Office’s Special Representative on Civil Society Anu Juvonen following her visit to Georgia from 7 to 11 September.

Meeting government officials, civil society actors and diplomats, Juvonen echoed concerns previously voiced by ODIHR about rising restrictions on protesters, independent journalists and NGOs.

Finland, which holds the OSCE chair in 2025, underlined the priority of protecting civil society as essential to democratic resilience. The Special Representative called on Georgia to reverse restrictive measures and restore an enabling environment for independent civic activity.
