Freedom Files

Freedom files is a group of experts working together to press governments in the post-Soviet space to better protect fundamental human rights and the environment. The Freedom Files group collects and analyzes information about governments’ records on human rights and the environment and publishes reports and policy papers to promote improvements in state policy. In addition to engaging in direct advocacy with governments in the post-Soviet space, members of the group also make recommendations to international organizations and international financial institutions and take part in public campaigning in cooperation with fellow civil society organizations. Priority issues for Freedom Files work include reform of international organizations, such as the OSCE, and improvement of the policies of international financial institutions, such as the EBRD and IMF. The group’s regional priorities include Russia, Belarus and Turkmenistan.
