The Belarusian Helsinki Committee (BHC) is an independent, non-political, non-profit civic association founded in 1995 in Belarus. BHC’s main objective is creating a civic context, in which citizens, businesses and the government would realize that a comfortable and convenient living environment in the country may only be established through active participation and collaboration of all actors. Thus, BHC promotes human rights as a paramount element of economic and human development.
BHC works with international human rights mechanisms (the OSCE, Council of Europe, and the UN special procedures and treaty bodies), provides legal assistance to the victims, arranges human rights education for the youth, civil society activists and legal professionals, and organizes events to draw public attention to the most pressing human rights issues in Belarus.
