Ukraine NGOs Presented Alternative Reports to Universal Periodic Review

Ukraine submitted an official report to the United Nations Human Rights Council within the framework of the Universal Periodic Review. It contains information about the human rights situation in the country during the last four years. The report was presented at the UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva.

Human rights and civil society organisations from Ukraine presented their alternative report, where their assesment of the human rights situation in the country is reflected. 12 different “shadow reports” were prepared by 40 Ukrainian organisations, and they cover different aspects of the human rights situation. Members of the Civic Solidarity Platform contributed significantly to preparation of alternative reports.

Human rights organisations are calling UN participating states to press the Ukraine authorities for improving the human rights situation in the country. After the final recommendations are issued to the Ukraine report, NGOs will press for creation of the national action plan to improve the human rights situation and monitor its implementation.
